Free Crochet slouchy Hat Pattern

SLOUCHY HAT

Materials
Universal yarn
Classic Shades
70% Acrylic
30% Wool
Medium Weight Wool
3.5 oz
197 Yards
Color Harvest 712, Lot 950
J crochet hook

Note: do not join  rounds unless directed, work in continuous rounds.

1-Ch 2, work a sc, hdc, and 10 dc in second ch from hook
2- work 2 dc in each st around (24)
3- *work 1 dc in next  st, and 2 dc (increase) in next, repeat from* around (36)
4- *work 2 dc in next 2 st, and 2 dc in next, repeat from* around (48)
5- *work 3 dc in next 2 st, and 2 dc in next, repeat from* around (60)
6- *work 4  dc in next 2 st, and 2 dc in next, repeat from* around (72)
7-19  dc in each st around (72)
20- dc in 54 st, hdc in next st, sc in next st, sl st in next  (this is the end of this row) 57
21- ch 1, sc in same st as sl st from row 20, and sc around all the stitches, when you get back around to the first sc, join the round with a sl st. (72)
22-24 ch 1 sc around, join with a sl st (72)
25- ch 1, sc around, join with a sl st and then fasten off.  Work in ends.

Too make this smaller for a younger child, omit row 5, or switch to smaller hook for rnds 21-25.  To make it for a larger head (LIKE MINE!)  work about 6 increases evenly spaced in round 7 before continuing with pattern.  then on row 20 you will work 60 dc's instead of 54.

Newborn Elf Hat

Free Crochet baby elf hat Pattern

Materials Needed
Worsted Weight Yarn (I used Soft Red Heart Yarn)
Hook sizes F and G

Step 1
Using an F hook make the....

Ribbing
Row 1- ch 7 and sc in each st across (6 sc)turn
Row 2- ch 2, hdc in each Back Loop across, turn (6 hdc)
Row 3- ch1, sc in each back loop across
Row 4-39: repeat row 2-3
Row 40 repeat row 2

Now measure your length of ribbing. It should be 13-14 inches long for a newborn.  If it is OK  bring the top of the last row around to meet the bottom of the starting chain.  The slip stitch the back loop of row 40 to the free loop at the bottom of the starting chain.

*If it is too short or you need it longer, just continue in the pattern to desired length.

Do not cut the yarn, get your G hook ready for the next steps.




Step 2
with G hook
Round 1- ch 3 and then work 60 dc around. To do this I put a dc in the end of sc rows and 2 dcs across end of hdc rows. (61, counting ch 3 as a dc)
Rounds 2-4 dc around (61)

(if you want a taller hat then work a few more rows)

Step 3
Round 5: ch 3, *dc2tog, dc in 8, repeat from * around (55)
Round 6: ch 3, *dc2tog, dc in 7, repeat from * around (49)
Round 7: ch 3, *dc2tog, dc in 6, repeat from * around (43)
Round 8: ch 3, *dc2tog, dc in 5, repeat from * around (37)
Round 9: ch 3, *dc2tog, dc in 4, repeat from * around (31)
Round 10: ch 3, *dc2tog, dc in 3, repeat from * around (25)
Round 11: ch 3, *dc2tog, dc in 2, repeat from * around (19)
Round 12:ch 3, *dc2tog, dc in 1, repeat from * around (13)
(if you made longer ribbing, then continue to decrease until you get to 13 stitches left)
Round 13 ch 3, dc2tog around (7)
Round 14 ch 3, dc2tog around (4)
Round 15-22, ch 3, dc around (4)

fasten off. tie long top into knot.

FREE CROCHET-A-LONG

For an elf hat for newborns! 

Welcome to my first free Crochet-A-Long.  To celebrate 200 fans!  The pictures below are of different elf hats I have made for newborns.  I didn't use a pattern, but just for my fans I am going to write a pattern!  At the end you can choose to make ears (like the ones at left) or I will be providing a pattern for a flower. Or maybe do both?

 

In order to participate you are going to need some supplies!

Please grab you size F (3.75mm) and G (4.5)mm hook. 

If you crochet tightly you might want to go up a size!

A tape measurer, because if our gauge isn't perfectly the same we will just add more stitches! :o)

 

Some worsted weight yarn.  If you want to use baby weight yarn, you should probably hold two strands together.  Or there are some nice baby worsted weights out there.  I am going to use Red Heart Soft in an Olive Green (for my new nephew!) , a tapestry needle, and scissors.

Been going crazy with KNITTING....

 This is the Moebius scarf by Elizabeth Zimmermann.  Reading her books on knitting have changed my outlook.  I wish I had got it done before it started getting warm though!

 These were a special order.  I had just started really knitting and it was a bit overwhelming but it turned out decent.  The pattern is from 1945 and is free on Ravelry

 These were both created from Knitting Workshop by Elizabeth Zimmerman.  My first sweater ever.

 I have seen similiar and knew someone wanted one, so I made up a pattern for her babie's shower.

The first pattern I tried to do, it is currently in Minnesota, hopefully keeping my son who is serving a 2 year mission for our church, warm.  If you are in Minneapolis Minn and a missionairy from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints knocks on your door, Please be nice and remember his mommy misses him lots!



This is one of the few things I have made using a pattern lately. It was made from RedHearts Fashionista Farrah pattern. It was made to be a look alike for my daughter on a special day.

Created this little guy to go in my pig collection.
Sold the headband on etsy in my debbittybears shop. The bear is still available.

Another bear I created recently...although I have been told she looks a bit like a mouse? The headband went to my sister for her baby.

Crochet of Recentness...or....Why my house is a mess.





I did not realize how much crocheting I have been doing until I started putting this blog together...I did some for gifts, an auction, and my etsy shop. My house is a wreck but I am having fun..

These headbands and hats were done with peruvian color red heart. For my etsy shop.

Another red heart yarn....for my shop....made freeform style.

THe set above was made as a gift for a friends baby...with instructions that the bear only be used a photo prop or decoration not a toy

The yellow hat was made with a super soft yarn that I immediately lost the label for.

The red hat was for the auction.

The hat below was for a cousins granddaughter.

The hat above and below were both done for the auction. They are school colors and my own pattern.

The hat above was created for the auction. I was blessed to teach a crochet class at the kids school. They all made squares for this pillow which was also auctioned off.

THe green hat above was made for my daughters speech teacher's baby.

Pattern for doll came from "byhookbyhand.blogspot.com" and the matching hat is my design.

Bumble bee hat just sort of faked it.

hat i made for a garden party...daughter wanted to wear it.

Above is a set I made for etsy after the one for a friend turned out so dang cute.....

Made Cell phone Pouches for myself and my daughter, we loop them through our belt loops, They work Great. I finally opened an etsy shop, below are some of the things I am selling. my etsy shop name is debbittybears.

I am also selling some legwarmers.

Today my daughter put on a hat and shawl I made. She looked so cute we did a little photo shoot.

The baby is modeling a bunny hat and leg warmers I am hoping to list on etsy tomorrow. (I try not to do business on sundays.) She thought the bunny went well with the March Hare look.
